Spier Films is a motion picture production company with offices in Cape Town, London, Los Angeles and Reykjavik. We develop, produce and finance films and series unrestricted by form, genre or platform. We are part of a family-owned group of companies that includes at least 6 of the top South African insurance companies, two food franchises in 30 countries, a wine estate, hotel and conference centre and luxury lodges throughout Africa and India. We create and support films which have both critical and commercial success and often work with highly respected international producers in both a servicing and co-production capacity while remaining dedicated to fostering South African talent.

Kule Chitepo

Kule Chitepo is a leading expert in the development of world-class policy and practice for transformative integrated natural resource management. With over 20 years of experience in East and Southern Africa, he has held strategic leadership positions that have built successful partnerships among international organizations, local and national governments, the private sector, NGOs, and community groups to design and implement innovative and collaborative approaches to environmental conservation and sustainable socioeconomic development. Having served as Resource Africa’s Executive Director for a decade, he is currently a Director and Partnerships Advisor in Chemonics International’s East and Southern Africa Division.

Lwazi Manzi

Lwazi is an award winning film producer and media company executive with Spier Films based in Stellenbosch, South Africa. A medical doctor by training, she has been involved in international film co-productions for more than a decade. She promotes cultural and gender diversity and intellectual property rights in South Africa’s filmmaking sector through her leadership roles in the Independent Producers Organization, the South African Screen Federation, as well as her social impact arm, CineCulture, and Sisters Working in Film and Television (SWIFT).

Michael Auret

A lawyer and enterprising executive, financier and producer, Michael runs Spier Films. Films he has produced and financed have played in Berlin, Toronto, Sundance and other festivals, while also selling in multiple territories.

Quinton Fredericks

Current co-chair of the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO), Honorary Chair of the South African Film Academy and convenor of the YOung Filmmakers programme, Quinton has more than 20 years of production experience in various formats and oversees up Spier Films productions on the ground with Michael Auret

THEMBISA COCHRANE Producer
Thembisa develops theatrical features for Speir Films, working on both internal productions and international co-productions.
HEATHER MILLARD - Producer & Sales Agent
Heather is a British producer who relocated to Iceland in 2009. She has produced documentaries, feature films and animated content, many of these were international co-productions financed through European funds, tax incentives and pre-sales. Her films have been selected and awarded at international film festivals. Heather is a member of the European Film Academy, the Icelandic Film Academy and Iceland’s Producer on the Move 2015.
THORDUR BRAGI JONSSON - Head of Production: Iceland
Ryan graduated summa cum laude with a masters in arts in motion picture producing from UCLA''S school fo theater, film and television. He is both a telluride film festival filmlab fellow and a sundance institute lab participant. Prior to working with Spier, Ryan worked at Anonymous content.
RYAN FRAME - Producer
Ryan graduated summa cum laude with a Masters in Fine Arts in Motion Picture Producing from UCLA''S School fo Theater, Film and Television. He is both a Telluride Film Festival FilmLab fellow and a Sundance institute lab participant. Ryan is currently an executive at Spier Films based in Los Angeles.
QUINTON FREDERICKS - Producer
His company, Pitch Black Films, won a SAFTA for the 58-part documentary series titled, “What’s Your Story?’ several other documentaries, short films etc. have subsequently followed, including the powerful coming of age documentary, Vision to Dream, screened at Encounters International Documentary Film Festival.
MATT CAMBELL - Producer
Matt's expertise extends to public relations in managing PR for brands and bands with an international reach and working in production of a number of feature films and productions for major broadcasters.
JAMES ABDOU - Producer
James has been with Spier Films since 2012, producing feature films and factual content. He has been part of the UB40 management team since 2014 and in January 2020 became Managing Partner of Evo Music Management.
OLOFF BERGH - Producer
Oloff is a documentary and reality TV Producer and Executive Producer. He has award-winning productions and has a track record of producing documentaries and factual series for international broadcast clients including Discovery Channel, National Geographic and Animal Planet.
